The Morphological Matrix is a great way for anyone to come up with ideas. This is usually used for logo design but can be used for conceptualisation in general as well . *Warning you will need to have a spark of creativity inside you for best results as this process is no exact science.
Here are the five steps for using the morphological matrix:
1. Establish your goal
2. Break the problem down into seperate components. For a website this may be theme, colours, characters, typography, shapes, page layout, illustrations, textures, cta’s, icons.
3. Now make notes of all the various forms which these components could take. So for theme you may have gym / fitness, corporate/ slick, street/urban, spiritual.
4. Once you have done this represent each of these ideas in the form of a doodle.
5. Now for the fun part! Combine different forms of the components and see what ideas stem from these.
6. Don’t just shuffle these ideas and wait for a miracle to happen. These combinations should just act as the catalyst for the bigger ideas. The possibilities these combinations create are only the beginning. Remember the golden real of ideas generation, never say no…run with it and see what you come up with!
7. Evaluate what works best and voila you hopefully have the golden nugget of an idea that you were after.
