So much to talk about this week that I’ve decided to cover several topics in one article. So this week we’ll be looking at ie9, Mobile Web Design by Cameron Moll, a must have stencil kit and the New ihm website.
Internet Explorer 9 beta Launches
What if I were to say to you that I could make your web browser perform just like an application? You’d be very interested right? Well IE 9 makes just this claim…
In fact I’m a little dubious at all the claims IE 9 is making…none more so than “IE9 will change the web forever!” but lets give it a chance before we shoot it down.
Modern day browsers and websites only use 10% of the processing power that your PC has to offer, whilst IE9 claims to unlock the other 90%. It will do this by tapping into your graphics processor through windows to utilise the full power of your PC. By doing this we will see improvements in all areas of the web browsing experience including:
- Smoother video
- Truer colour
- Clearer graphics
- More responsive / faster loading websites
The real selling point of IE9 though will be the speed of the browsing experience, where they claim to be the fastest browser on the market. Another claim though…the proof will be in the pudding.

Mobile web design is here
The new age is upon us…and we’ve figured it’s about time we started to seriously look into designing for the mobile web. So we’ve purchased the book “Mobile web Design” by Cameron Moll to help get us started. The book is written for absolute beginners and as it is such a new area this will be the majority of us! So far I’ve read through the first chapter and this is a compelling read thus far….Moll is certain the mobile web is a necessity for your business and not just a fancy addition. He goes on to compare it to the car, TV and web in terms of the impact it will have upon our lives. I’ll be writing a full article on the subject of the mobile web in the current weeks, which will be heavily influenced by this book. Get your copy here.
Stencil Time
In preparation for designing for mobile devices we’ve recently purchased this amazing stencil kit! It contains icons which feature in the majority of web projects so could even be used in your mock-ups for full version desktop sites.
