When you see someone on a day-to-day basis or even weekly, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll notice changes or anything different about them unless they’re fairly drastic or out of the ordinary. Meet someone you haven’t seen for a year or two and one of your first thoughts will probably centre on how they seemed to have aged since you saw them last.
Familiar
The same is true of a website: you get used to seeing it but rarely notice when it starts to look old. When was the last time you looked at your own website? I don’t mean when you last clicked onto it and gave it a quick scan; how long is it since you took a good long look at it and what sort of impression did it make on you?
How Does it Look?
What did you think of the copy? Is it still telling visitors what they should know or mostly irrelevant because your business has since moved on? If this is the case, you could be losing money because if your website doesn’t tell them – visitors won’t know.
How about the images? Are they still doing it for you or are they looking a bit dated or out of place? Again, if your business has changed since your website went live, the images should reflect that.
What were your thoughts on the overall layout? Probably not as fresh as it was and again doesn’t convey the message that your company has modernised or perhaps diversified?
Refresh
Although virtual entities, websites still age and need an occasional makeover to keep them current and attractive to visitors and if you’re not happy with what you see on your own site then it’s time to act. However, not everyone feels comfortable with change, but a chat with your sympathetic web designer should put your mind at rest that a new look will work wonders for your site.
Until next time.
