Domain Names Your website address is your identity
in cyberspace. A domain name is much more than an easy
to remember 0800 number. It's your company's signpost
and address on the Internet. Domain names are eaten up at an astonishing rate. Around
10,000 are registered each week in the UK alone. For
those of you who are new to the Internet, here is a brief
guide to domain names. The most common domain name endings are .co.uk or .com.
Of these, .co.uk is most widely used by companies in
the UK, as it is stating that you are a company located
in the UK domain. The .com ending was initially exclusive
to American companies. However; it is now commonly used
in many countries by companies who have products to sell
around the World. If you are using your website to sell
to companies in the UK, we recommend you use a .co.uk
address. Other endings that are available are: .net .org.
.ltd.uk .gov and .biz. Domain names must start with a letter or number, and
contain between 3 and 63 characters for .uk names and
26 for others. However; the shorter the name the better.
Please note that all three letter domain names have been
registered. Domain names can only contain the following
characters: a to z, 0 to 9 and the hyphen character (-).
Capitals and punctuation are not permitted. Contact
us now to find out if your domain name is available.
You may have already registered
your domain name. If not, we strongly recommend that you
register a name as soon as possible. If
you don't, there's
a good
chance
that somebody else will, thus making it unavailable to
you.
