As a business, your website is your virtual shop window, and as with traditional shops, a place where both current and potential customers can call in to look at your display and see what you have to offer.
Your website should obviously inform visitors about your products or services but it’s always a good thing to have a testimonial page where previous, satisfied customers can sing your praises because recommendations are often the best and most effective way of growing a professional reputation and getting your name out there.
However, depending on what type of business you are involved in, another area to think about is a portfolio page where you can show off examples of your work or achievements and hopefully impress your visitors at the same time.
A portfolio page can be quite a powerful addition to your website not least because visitors and especially potential customers can see actual examples of your previous work and projects which should ideally persuade them to initiate contact.
It’s no bad thing to blow your own trumpet especially if you are very good at what you do and can deliver what your customers want each and every time, and a portfolio page is a perfect way of showcasing your talent and letting your work speak for itself.
In a previous post about web design portfolio pages, I said that when choosing examples for your portfolio page it’s a good idea to be extremely varied with your choices so your portfolio page includes examples that appeal to a wide range of tastes.
I also mentioned that….”whatever websites you decide to display on your portfolio have clickable links, either next to or underneath the image or within the image itself so that visitors can go directly to a live example of your work. Images with no links will only frustrate and annoy them and make them unlikely to visit your site again”.
It’s also a good idea to keep your portfolio page fresh by adding newer examples from time to time. Some potential customers could be visiting your portfolio page regularly before deciding whether to contact you so it’s important it doesn’t get stagnant.
If you don’t have a portfolio page but want to know more, then have a word with your web designer and start showing your website visitors exactly what you can do for them.
Until next time.
