Creating an effective Landing Page

If you use the wrong type of bait for fishing you won’t catch many fish….this same analogy applies to your landing page. The landing page essentially needs to be a choicy piece of bait in order to reel in users. An impressive landing page should build anticipation for when the site finally arrives and give the user a reason to come back. Recently we have dealt with several landing pages on sites like appointmentrooms.com and have developed a set of rules to give your site the best chance of success when it goes live. Another thing you should try to avoid is the clichéd under construction title accompanied by builder hat and construction sign imagery…this impresses no one.

So here are the three key things you need to ensure are included in your landing page ( and maybe the page will even get bookmarked! ):

1.    Branding – Your company logo and colour scheme should at least be featured in the landing page in order to establish your identity. Ideally the page will also establish the style of the finished site to build brand familiarity.

2.    Purpose – What will the purpose of the website be? What reason has the user to come back? Try to establish what services the company offers and maybe even feature links to social media pages which promote the site. However don’t overwhelm the user with information; the page should only offer a taster of the site and should be used to build anticipation.

3.    A Signup Form – Once you have reeled in that 6lbs carp you need to make sure it doesn’t get away. The best way to do this is to feature a short signup form asking for a name and email address. The purpose of the form could be something as simple as an email letting the user know when the site has gone live or a special offer giving privileges to those who sign up; give the user an incentive to come back!

So if you want to create traffic to your site giving it every chance to be a success then let us help you create a great landing page…there’s plenty of fish to be had in the sea!
